The Secretary of State is one of five constitutional officers originally designated in Indiana's State Constitution of 1816. Fifty-nine Hoosiers have served as the third highest-ranking official in state government - with Secretary of State Rokita serving since 2003.
The Business Services Division administers all business-related responsibilities for the Secretary of State including registering of new businesses, filing of commercial liens, and issuance of trademarks, notaries public and summonses.
The Secretary of State's office oversees Indiana's securities industry as well as the activities of mortgage brokers, collection agencies, franchisors and continuing care retirement centers.

Secretary of State Todd Rokita was elected to his first public office in 2002.
He was sworn in January 1, 2003 as the youngest Secretary of State in the
country at the time. Secretary Rokita is now serving his second consecutive
