Off-Site Sales Requirements

Off-site sales licensees may be issued to any current licensed Indiana dealer, manufacturer, automobile auctioneer or transfer dealer for the purpose of conducting a vehicle event at a location other than the applicants established place of business.

A dealer may not hold more than four (4) offsite sales may within twelve (12) calendar months (1 year ending with date of current offsite sale license application date).

Vehicle sales may not be conducted on Sunday pursuant to Indiana Code 24-4-6-1, unless the sale is a Special Sales Event.

The temporary location must be:

  • A well defined location such as a building, tent or open parking area which is separate and distinct from other business locations
  • Set up to include an appropriate area for the closing of a sale, if a sale is closed at the off-site location and :
  • Meet all local ordinances and zoning requirements:
    • Zoning authorization must be signed by:
      • If sale is within corporate boundaries of city or town – mayor or executive
      • If sale is outside of corporate boundaries of city or town – executive of county (i.e. county commissioner) - if city/town has jurisdiction – mayor of city/town.

    The applications must:

  • Be received at least ten (10) days prior to the sale event
  • Contain the exact addresses of the proposed event location
  • Include the applicants established place of business location
  • Contain the applicants dealer license number
  • Contain the applicants retail merchants number
  • Include the owners name, address, and telephone number
  • Contain the dates of the proposed event

Motor Vehicle Industry Trade Show

Motor vehicle industry sponsored trade shows are exempt form the off-site requirements. However the sponsor must notify the Commissioner in writing of the scheduled event, and its participants at lease thirty (30) days prior to a show.

Sunday Sales & Special Sales Event

A person licensed under this article shall be issued a special event permit from the bureau for a special event meeting the following conditions:


  • A vehicle auction conducted by licensed auctioneers
  • Vehicles are 15 years old or classic, collector, or antique vehicles
  • Must auction at least 100 vehicles
  • Submit application to Secretary of State no later than 30 days before the event
  • No more than 2 per year
  • Fee: $250
  • Sunday “Blue Law” Exemption for special event.
