A Southern Indiana timber buyer has been arrested by Indiana Conservation Officers on various felony charges related to his timber buying business.
Gary L. Mefford, 55, of Dupont, recently was taken into custody on warrants issued out of Jennings County for three counts of D felony theft, and on warrants out of Decatur County charging him with one count of D felony theft and failure to pay for timber as agreed.
Mefford has been the subject of an investigation that began in 2007. He is accused of taking nearly $40,000 from six property owners with four separate landholdings in Jennings and Decatur counties.
