Senate Democrats appoint budget conference committee members

Committee to begin work Wednesday on final budget compromise

INDIANAPOLIS -Senate Democrat Leader Vi Simpson (D-Ellettsville) has announced the caucus appointments to the state budget conference committee for House Bill 1001.

State Senator John Broden (D-South Bend) has been appointed as a conferee for the bill. State Senators Karen Tallian (D-Portage), Lindel Hume (D-Princeton) and Tim Skinner (D-Terre Haute) have been appointed as advisors.

A conference committee is a joint committee with members representing each party in the Senate and House of Representatives. The committee is formed to work out a compromise when different versions of a bill are passed by the two chambers. In this case, the conference committee will be working to find a compromise between the Senate and House state budget plans.

Conferees will meet for the first time on Wednesday at 9:30 to begin final negotiations on the bill.
