Today the Indiana State Department of Agriculture-Division of Soil Conservation (ISDA-DSC) recognized the winners of the 2008 Indiana Conservation State Photo Contest. The Division received more than 140 entries from the general public, Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), other conservation organizations and ISDA staff.
The 2008 Grand Champion was Old and New by Chris Freeland of Benton County SWCD.
"We had many outstanding entries, and it was difficult to only pick a few winners," said Acting Agriculture Director Ken Klemme. "Our Grand Champion photo truly captured today's modern agriculture and conservation efforts."
Participants competed in five different categories:
- Conservation in action
- Water uses and impacts
- Faces of conservation
- Conservation up-close
- On the farm
Contestants indicated the category in which they wanted to be considered, and they were evaluated based on relevance to the category and overall impression of the photo.
The winning photographs will be displayed in a gallery at the ISDA office over the next year. All contest submissions will be considered for future ISDA-DSC publications, Web sites and newsletters and will be made available to SWCDs statewide for their use.
