The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) will hold a public hearing on Monday, November 17, 2008, at 6:00pm in the Southside Elementary School, auditorium at 1230 West 200 South in Columbus, Indiana. The purpose of the public hearing is to offer all interested persons an opportunity to comment on current design plans for the proposed modifications to the I-65 and SR 58 interchange. The project is located south of Columbus in southern Bartholomew County. The interchange modifications are proposed to consist of constructing additional turn lanes to the north and southbound exit ramps and adding two additional left turn lanes on SR 58 at the interchange. The existing SR 58 bridge will be widened to accommodate the left turn lanes on SR 58. The bridge will be raised on foot to meet vertical clearance requirements. Both ramp terminals will continue to utilize 3-way stops, however the traffic signal will be constructed for future signal installation. Construction of the project will require approximately 0.5 acre of new permanent right-of-way. Two way traffic will be maintained during all phases of construction along SR 58. All ramps will remain open during all phases of construction. The public hearing will feature a formal presentation where the proposed project will be described in greater detail, a formal public comment session where interested persons will have an opportunity to comment on the proposed project, and an open house informal session where project officials will be available to address questions, comments and concerns.
