INDIANAPOLIS (July 17, 2008) - Governor Mitch Daniels today announced the appointment of new members to the Ivy Tech Community College and University of Southern Indiana boards of trustees, and the Indiana Commission for Higher Education.
Ivy Tech Community College
Governor Daniels announced the appointments of two new members of the Ivy Tech Community College board of trustees. Lillian Sue Livers, Madison, and Anthony Moravec, Columbus, have been named to the board.
Livers received her undergraduate degree in home economics and biology from Manchester College in 1970. She is the director of the KDH Foundation at The King's Daughter's Hospital in Madison and also serves on the board of the American Heart Association.
Moravec earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University. He is the president of Blairex Laboratories, Inc., in Columbus and a member of the Columbus Economic Development Board. He also serves as chairman of the National Advisory Board for the Indiana University Art Museum.
Livers and Moravec replace Jesse Brand and Mark Neff. Governor Daniels has re-appointed Lee Marchant of Bloomington, Ned Pfau of Jeffersonville, and Bruce Walkup of Sullivan. Their terms begin immediately and expire on June 30, 2011.
University of Southern Indiana
Governor Mitch Daniels announced the appointments of three new members of the University of Southern Indiana (USI) board of trustees. Ira Boots of Evansville, Steve Schenck of Indianapolis, and Ron Romain of Evansville, have been named to the board.
Boots, president and CEO of Berry Plastics, graduated from the U.S. Department of Labor's tool-making program in 1975 and also studied at the University of Michigan's Executive Business School. He has served as plant manager, executive vice president of operations and CEO during his 30-year tenure at Berry Plastics.
Schenck received his undergraduate degree from USI in 1972. He is a vice president at Merrill Lynch and is a member of the board of directors for the United Way of Central Indiana and the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.
Ron Romain, who received his undergraduate from USI in 1973, was recommended by the USI Alumni Association to represent alumni as required by statute. He is the CEO of United Companies, and a former chair of the USI Foundation Board.
They replace Mark Day, Frank McDonald and James Will. Their terms begin immediately and expire on June 30, 2012.
Indiana Commission for Higher Education
Governor Daniels announced the appointments of two new members of the Indiana Commission for Higher Education. Gary Lehman, West Lafayette, and Clayton Slaughter, Bloomington, have been named to the commission. They replace Kathryn Dale and Deb Cook.
Lehman, who will represent the 4th Congressional District, completed his undergraduate degree at Purdue in 1974. He now serves as president and CEO of Fairfield Manufacturing Co. Inc. in Lafayette and is a member of the board of directors of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce. His term begins immediately and will expire on June 30, 2012.
Slaughter, who was recommended by a student nominating committee to represent students as required by statute, completed his undergraduate work at Purdue and is currently a PhD candidate at Indiana University. His term begins immediately and will expire on June 30, 2010.
Governor Daniels re-appointed Dennis Bland of Indianapolis to represent the 7th Congressional District, and Ken Sendelweck of Jasper to represent the 9th Congressional District. Their terms begin immediately and will expire on June 30, 2012.
