INDIANAPOLIS - This week, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will join the Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives and numerous other public and private sector organizations to help Hoosier flood and tornado victims.

Hoosiers are encouraged to donate non-perishable food items, diapers and other items at BMV license branches across the state. These items will be distributed by local relief agencies to the victims impacted by recent severe weather events in many parts of Indiana.

"Our 140 license branches can be convenient collection points for citizens to donate items in support of their fellow Hoosiers," commented Ron Stiver, BMV Commissioner. He noted that many community groups, churches and businesses are sponsoring relief efforts, and the BMV effort is just one more avenue for Hoosiers to support those in need. Stiver added that cash contributions will not be collected at the branches, but rather should be made directly to the Red Cross, Salvation Army or other relied funds.

Relief agencies are requesting the following items that will be provided to the victims and relief workers. Items will also help stock food pantry supplies for distribution during the long-term recovery process.

• Bottled water products.
• Ready-to-eat, non-perishable food items.
• Other non-perishable food items.
• Packaged diapers.

Stiver thanked Waste Management of Indiana for providing the collection boxes that will be located in each branch.

Items can be contributed at each branch during normal business hours.
