Biologics for Human Rabies Prevention

Biologics for providing either preexposure or postexposure prophylaxis can be obtained from pharmaceutical distributors or directly from the manufacturers. Contact information for products, manufacturers, and telephone numbers is provided below.

Rabies Vaccine from Public Sources

The Indiana State Department of Health and local health departments do not provide these products. Biologics for indigents may be provided for by counties, cities, and towns in accordance with IC 16-41-19.

IC 16-41-19-2 Antitoxins and Vaccines

      Sec. 2. All counties, cities, and towns shall supply without charge diphtheria, scarlet fever, and tetanus (lockjaw) antitoxin and rabies vaccine to persons financially unable to purchase the antitoxin or vaccine, upon the application of a licensed physician.

Physicians are reimbursed by submitting the Application and Claim for Biologicals, State Form 43918 (R/11-97), to their local health department. To obtain a copy of State Form 43918, please go to the ISDH Web site:
