In May of 2000, the first-ever Surgeon General's Report on Oral Health was released to alert Americans to the full meaning of oral health. A major theme of this report is that oral health is more than just "teeth and gums." The report stated that not only are oral diseases and conditions associated with other health problems, but the mouth reflects general health and well being.
