ICPR > About ICPR > Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board

In February of 2006, Governor Mitch Daniels created the Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board, or SHRAB. Charged with being the central advisory body for historical records planning and preservation in Indiana, the SHRAB is working with the Commission on Public Records and repositories throughout the state to accomplish their task.

The Board continues to receive feedback from their survey sent out September, 2006. The information collected will allow the SHRAB to analyze the situation, set priorities and coordinate public and private resources to preserve Indiana's most vulnerable records, and increase accessibility to the most used historical documents.

For further information please contact shrab@icpr.in.gov.

Regional Conferences

The Indiana State Historic Records Advisory Board (SHRAB) is pleased to announce five regional conferences in 2009 for archives professionals, educators, and volunteers. The Indiana SHRAB hopes to use these conferences as a starting point to form relationships and networks across the state of people who are committed to preserving Indiana’s documentary heritage. At each conference, the SHRAB hopes to start a conversation about some pressing issues involving the archival community, including the use of electronic records and digital repositories, finding grants and fundraising for new or continuing projects, and creating plans for the preservation or salvage of documents and materials, should a disaster occur. The dates and locations of the conferences are as follows:

Tuesday, February 24th, 2009
Knox Co. Public Library Fortnightly Club, Vincennes

Governor's Award

In 2006 SHRAB created the Governor’s Award. Nominees eligible for the Governor’s Award include individuals who have contributed substantially toward the preservation, recognition, or appreciation of Indiana’s historic record through their support, leadership, innovation, and/or volunteerism. The Governor’s Award was presented this year on December 11, 2008 at the capitol rotunda as part of the Statehood Day celebration.
