Skip your next license branch visit and create an online myBMV account. Your personal myBMV account is a virtual license branch that gives you more information about your records as well as the ability to securely access many services online.

Through your myBMV account you have access to the following online services as well as many others:

License, Permit And Identification Card Fees

An Indiana driver's license issued by the Bureau of Motor Vehicles indicates the extent of the holder’s privileges to operate motor vehicles. Law enforcement officers use driver's licenses to identify drivers and access driving records. Hoosiers also use driver's licenses to prove their identity, for example, when voting, writing checks or boarding an airplane. The BMV also issues driver's licenses that allow Hoosiers to ride motorcycles and operate vehicles for commercial purposes.

Indiana residents of any age may obtain an identification card from any license branch in any county. To obtain a free identification card for voting purposes, you must visit a license branch with sufficient documentation and state that you need a free identification card for voting purposes.

Driver's License Fees

You may visit any BMV license branch to obtain a license for the first time or to renew a license. Your license expires on your birthday and a late fee of $5 will be charged if the license is renewed after that date. If your birthday falls on a day on which license branches are closed, such as a Sunday or a Monday, your license will remain valid until the end of the next business day. All full-service license branches are open until 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.

Learner's Permit Fees

The BMV issues learner's permits to individuals who are in the process of learning to drive or ride a motorcycle. A learner's permit is only valid for one year. Once your learner's permit expires it is no longer valid and you must pass the appropriate tests to obtain a new permit.

Identification Card Fees

Indiana residents of any age may obtain an identification card from any BMV license branch. To obtain a free identification card for voting purposes, you must visit a license branch with sufficient documentation and state that you need a free identification card for voting purposes.

Motorcycle License And Endorsement Fees

Since 1980, Indiana has required that motorcycle riders hold a valid motorcycle operator’s license or a motorcycle endorsement on their current operator license. Indiana residents who already have an operator license may add an endorsement to their operator license allowing them to operate motorcycles. Indiana residents who do not have a valid operator license may obtain a motorcycle license allowing them to operate motorcycles only. The BMV is currently working with ABATE of Indiana, Inc. (ABATE) to conduct motorcycle license examinations.

Chauffeur And Public Passenger Chauffeur License Fees

A chauffeur license grants the holder all the privileges allowed by a driver's license and, in addition, permits the holder to operate vehicles with a gross vehicle weight rating of at least 16,000 but not more than 26,000 pounds (whether single vehicle or combined gross vehicle weight) when used to transport property for hire or as an employee. A public passenger chauffeur license grants the holder all the privileges allowed by an driver's license and, in addition, permits the holder to transport people for hire so long as the vehicle is not designed or used to transport 16 or more people including the driver.

Commercial Driver's License Fees

A commercial driver license is required to operate a commercial motor vehicle or combination of vehicles with a declared gross vehicle weight rating in excess of 26,000 pounds; vehicles designed or used to transport 16 or more persons, including the driver; and vehicles used to transport hazardous materials.
