Registration and License Plate Fees

Most vehicle registrations may be renewed online or by using a Self-Service Terminal. All vehicle registrations may be renewed by visiting any Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles license branch.

When renewing your registrations, you will pay an excise tax fee and a registration fee. Customers living in certain counties will also pay a surtax or wheel tax. If you are purchasing a special license plate you will also have to pay an administrative fee in addition to the taxes and registration fees. Some groups that administer specialty license plates also charge additional fees.

Specialty and Personalized Plates

The special recognition license plate program allows motorists to support Indiana-based universities, colleges and organizations. Placing one of these plates on your vehicle will give your favorite group or organization added exposure and extra money. Apply for a special recognition license plate today and take your favorite organization with you wherever you travel.

There is a $15.00 BMV administrative fee charged by statute on ALL special recognition license plates. This fee is in addition to any required group fee paid to the organization and is paid at the time of registration.
